As mentioned in an earlier post, the RV underwent some upgrades while docked in Setauket. Arguably the best upgrade is the retractable shower door. Gone is the too long shower hogging shower curtain, replaced with a retractable shower door by Nautilus which actually allows me to use the entire shower space without worrying about spillage onto the bathroom floor. About 30 minutes of effort. https://shop.stoett.com/nautilus-retractable-shower-doors-for-rv/

The next upgrade was the simplest, yet it also has big benefits… the wardrobe shelving. We picked this unit up at Lowe’s. The bins serve to keep everything from sliding forward while in motion, which then restricts sliding open the wardrobe door.

Fred got an upgraded ride in the front seat. He always seemed to struggle getting his big body comfortable in the passenger seat. I bought a bed for him at LLBean thinking he would use it in the RV during the day, but he didn’t. So I used an 18” step stool and an oversized Snoopy to bolster the dog bed and now he’s got a comfy area for navingational duties.

The biggest change I had desired, and which required the most work, was finding a spot for Fred’s Ruffland kennel. Because of its size, the only place it could fit while we are traveling was in the dinette lowered into its bed position. But because of its size and weight, it was a pain in the ass to take on and off the bed so it could be restored to dinette position for eating and working, as this had to occur every time I wanted to bring the slide in for travel.
What we did instead was to remove one of the dinette benches and associated seat belt brackets in total. Then Lew had to shorten and reposition the slide wires and completely move the electrical outlet (to a much better place on the wall instead of the dinette bench). Lew did pretty much all of the work and I am very appreciative of this. 3 weeks on the road this way and it’s been a great change. I can eat at the table, work at the table, and get the RV closed up in no time at all to get on the road for a local adventure or to our next campground.
The last notable change occurred while I was in College Park, MD and noticed that my once waterproof bag was now 3” deep in water…. So off Fred and I went to Home Depot and picked up a couple of bins, straps and locks. We did have to forfeit a couple of items that had been swimming for too long. It’s true that anyone who wants it is really free to walk off with the inflatable paddle board, but I can only do so much….. it’s hard to see but the paddle board and bicycle pump are tucked in behind the bins. In truth, the bins seem to travel very securely.

I have one final big upgrade that I want to make – to add a TOAD (for my non-RV readers, this is a vehicle that will be pulled by the RV). I’m hoping I can get this done when I am in Florida this upcoming fall. For now, Fred and I are continuing to travel on down the road!
