We went to Rocky Mountain National Park today. The park is not fully opened yet after the snow season, as there is still a lot of snow in the higher elevations. The scenic drives are only opened part way.
Based on this, I was surprised at how many people plan as poorly as I do and have plans to be at RMNP this early in the season. The overlook parking areas were all packed with cars, which made it hard for me to get out and see some of the views, but I did block an entire parking area with my RV because I wanted to see the views as much as the next person. And really, lady, I was literally outside of my vehicle for 2 minutes!
There was one overlook at Many Curves where Fred and a few other dogs got out to see the views. There was a rocky outlook and it made for a popular viewing area.
Since the temperatures were only in the mid 60’s, and cooler in the higher elevations, I parked at Sprague Lake and did the nature trail hike around the lake while Fred waited for me back in the RV. It was a nice walk and the lake and surrounding mountains reminded me a lot of when I visited Glacier National Park and Lake Louise with my parents in 1992.
