There are a lot of scenic drives around Moab and the surrounding areas. We took a 60 mile drive through the La Sal Mountains. There were spectacular views all around. The La Sal loop drives through a lot of BLM lands, where there are animals grazing and lots of area for dispersed camping as well. The drive starts south of Moab and ends at the Colorado River north of town. Our highest elevation during the drive was at about 8,300 ft.
After driving the loop, we stopped at the Lions Trail recreation area and walked over a bridge across the Colorado River. Fred did get a quick dip in the river.
And after the day’s drive, Fred got to go swimming in Ken’s Lake. Ken’s lake is man made, with water diverted from nearby Mill Creek Canyon. Unfortunately, we learned later that the burr that had practically made itself a home in Fred’s foot was probably obtained at this lake. 🙄
