During the drive through Kansas, I saw a number of signs for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Musem so I decided to stop in Abilene, Kansas for a visit.  Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions and not planning in advance, I could not get in to see the museum, and the other buildings are all still closed. Fred and I were able to take a tour of the grounds and had a nice conversation about the facility with one of the staff members. One important thing that he said was that Eisenhower insisted that the site not be just about him but be a war memorial to all soldiers. Also, Eisenhower’s parents lived in his boyhood home until their deaths. The home sits on the grounds and was never moved – the rest of the site was designed around it.
