Our campground in Central City, Colorado was closer to Denver, as planned, but I hadn’t realized it was so far up in the mountains. The scenery from there was beautiful.

On Thursday I had planned to spend the day in Boulder. I’ve been there before – Denise and Al did their grad school work there, and they were married there at that time. And I’ve been a couple of other times with friends.
I had planned out a short hike for Fred and I in the morning. Unfortunately, the trail head was in no way going to accommodate my vehicle. I tried – but not only could I not get into a spot, I wound up having to back out the entire length of the parking lot into the street to turn around. I was able to find plenty of parking along the Boulder Creek Trail, so Fred and I did some walking over there. Fred got a brief swim but then I saw the sign that said that bacteria levels “could” be elevated and that ended Fred’s swimming day.
My next disappointment of the day was to find that the Title Nine store was closed for renovations last week while I was there. There are no Title Nine stores on the east coast and I like shopping in the store when I can! Not to worry because instead I went to REI and spent money there! 😀
The one errand that I needed to accomplish in Boulder was to pick up a bag of dog food for Fred and I had found the place for that in advance of the trip. This time I was not disappointed and Fred can now eat for a few more weeks. PLUS…. they had bathing stations so Fred got to get himself clean, especially after the swim in the possibly bacteria-laden creek, although it was from as far back as Moab or Estes Park that Fred had been scratching so he was due for a bath anyhow.
I learned while I was there that Boulder has the highest flash flood risk in all of Colorado. There are warnings about this along the Boulder Creek trail, which passes under several roads,.. not a good place to wait out a storm!
