Fred and I spent a couple of days at Acadia National Park in Maine. The first best part of Acadia was that dogs are permitted on the bus that goes through the park, the Island Explorer. This was great news since it meant that I could leave the RV parked at the Visitors Center since the trailhead parking lots are not RV friendly.

The first day we hiked the Gorham Mountain Loop Trail. This was a 3.5 mile trail which was moderate in difficulty, although when we took a wrong turn it became a little more challenging since I had to hoist Fred up a section with rungs. The summit views were nice and we met a nice group of women with whom we hiked down. Of course they loved Fred and we had some nice chats. Fred had a nice nap on the Island Explorer as it made the trip through the park and back to the parking lot.

After the hike, we went into Bar Harbor. It was low tide so we got to walk out to Bar Island and Fred got a couple of swims in. It was our first time in salt water since leaving Florida and Fred thought that an unpleasant surprise when he first realized it.

We went for Lobster (pronounced Lob-Stah) Roll after Bar Island. Fred didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as me, but the waiter may have brought an extra spoon with which Fred was able to share the blueberry pie.

When we went back to Acadia later in the week, we hiked the Great Head Trail. This trail followed the coast along the cliffs and had some nice views. The hike back down was a bit challenging, but we got it done. After the hike, it was mussels for lunch, which Fred enjoyed much more.
