After leaving Bryce Canyon National Park, Fred and I stopped for lunch and then went hiking at Red Canyon, part of the Dixie National Forest.

Red Canyon has landscape similar to Bryce. The major difference is that at Bryce you are looking down into the canyon, and at Red Canyon, you’re at the bottom of the canyon looking or climbing up.

We did a short hike, which to Fred probably felt like forever but was in reality less than 2 miles. On this hike we did a couple of connecting trails – Pink Ledges (which was a short nature trail), Hoodoos (which meandered through some hoodoos) and Birds Eye Trail. This one took us winding up the side of a mountain on a narrow trail which truly gave us a birds eye view. I think Fred thought he was seeing too much cliff edge and downhill for his liking because he kept looking back at me and down the hill. It’s OK…. we made it out alive while staying on the trail the whole way.

For those who have wondered, Fred definitely wore his boots on this hike.

And I don’t think he was particularly impressed with Smokey the Bear.
