First couple of days….
The first day we went to Pensacola for an overnight stay. I’m working hard at taking time to see stuff on the way and not just be in a hurry to get to the destination each day. I’m planning daily drives of 400 miles or less, and Fred’s even getting to exit the RV to stretch his legs a bit a couple of times along the way.
In Pensacola I did my first RV laundry. Nothing too exciting there…. we have clean bed sheets now. After leaving Pensacola on Sunday morning, we stopped at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile. There were a lot of memorials (9/11, Vietnam, Korea and one to the canines) and a lot of various Warcraft (planes, tanks, choppers….) on the grounds. We walked around a bit taking various photos.
Louisiana needs to spend some $ on roadwork…. they have the poorest paved roads I’ve ever come across!
On our second night, I did my first “boondocking” at Cracker Barrel in western Louisiana. It was fine – they had an area specific for RV’s and there were others there as well. Woke up and got a great breakfast!
After breakfast, we hit the road for Texas. First stop was Space Center Houston, where I toured some exhibits and explored the Shuttle Independence (fka Explorer) and NASA 905 – one of the two 747’s that carried all of the shuttles around.
Next stop was Stephen F Austin State Park for a short hike with Fred. We saw some cardinals in a protected area.
And then on to San Antonio
