I grew up living a few miles from Long Island Sound and spent a lot of time at the beach. I have fond memories of time my family spent at the beach (even my mom liked the beach, but I’m not sure she ever put a toe in the water!), and as teenagers with my friends at the beach.
And Virginia Beach… my family took a trip here when I was pretty young. I remember pretty much NOTHING about the trip, but I do remember that I got a “Virginia Beach is for Lovers” shirt as a souvenir. I tried to buy the same shirt again but was not able to find it.
One of the BEST things about the campground was that it was a 3 mile bike ride to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, and the bike trail was right across the street from the campground. I rode my bike down there several times. I also drove the RV down there with Fred one time. Photos from the beach and boardwalk….
We also tested out the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Chix Beach, as it’s known (or so I read) is at the Chesapeake Bay State Park. The water was pretty choppy the day we were there, but the beach was pretty empty and we had a nice walk. The kite boarders were out taking advantage of the big waves. Interesting thing happened with Fred’s toy “Captain America”…. I threw it in the water and we immediately lost it…. Never to be seen again…. We waited about 5 minutes hoping it would wash back up on shore and never did…. Amazingly we found it about a tenth of a mile down the beach where the angry waters had dumped it. We were both so happy to see him back!
