My friend Dan is sort of like a little brother because as a young adult I spent a lot of time hanging out with his parents. Dan is Steve’s older brother (referenced in my earlier home to Long Island post). I got to see Dan and Amy, and their kids, while I was here in Canandaigua…. It turns out they live about 1.5 miles down the road! I spent Sunday afternoon with them and had a nice relaxing time. Fred loved having a pool to swim in and all of the kids loved him.. especially Sam who can’t get any of their own dogs to play in the pool with him.  Fred usually has trouble getting out of above ground pools, but he aced the pool ladder. It was nice to hang out with Dan and see him with his own grown family.

And then on Monday, Fred got to swim in Lake Ontario. It turns out that my friend Sheri and her husband Carm live about a mile (?) from the Lake so we drove out to see them and get Fred’s swim recorded! It was really great to see Sheri – we haven’t seen each other since their wedding in 1988. Sheri and I were in the majority of our computer science classes together at SUNY Binghamton, along with all of our townie friends – Chuck, Scott, Barry, Bob. We had some good times back then!

After spending some time with Sheri, Fred and I headed over to Pittsford. I checked out the Wegman’s there which is supposed to be more amazing than most Wegman’s… for  sure it had the biggest produce department I’ve ever seen and the fruits and vegetables all seemed very fresh. I took some home and they tasted fresh as well!

I had wanted to see a working lock on the Erie Canal, and Carm directed me to Lock 32 in Pittsford. Fred and I went over for a short observation. There was a tour boat going through, which gave me a perfect opportunity since it went through and then turned around and went back. The elevation change of Lock 32 is about 25’
