I spent a lot of time in the DC area growing up, as my aunt & uncle and my grandmother all lived nearby in Silver Spring and Rockville, plus I had several friends who went to school in DC, and we also had an office nearby that I traveled to in the late 90’s.

So needless to say, I’ve seen a lot of the DC museums, memorials and monuments over the years. There is always something new, however, and I did get to see some new stuff when I took a bus trip one night organized by the campground.

The tour took us to all of the usual suspects… the Capitol, White House, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Washington Monument, Iwo Jima…

And there were a few new ones that I got to see. The World War II Memorial, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Martin Luther King, JR. Memorial and the US Air Force Memorial.  I’ve got some pictures from these.

I really liked the FDR Memorial. So many of the quotes they used are so relevant in today’s society. It’s unfortunate that we have not learned from the lessons of our past and still seem to repeat history in one way or another.

Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial is also well done. Unfortunately it was dusk when I was there and was hard to make out some of the quotes.

World War II Memorial was nice. But I had limited time to get down there from the Lincoln Memorial and get back to the bus so it was a rushed visit. I took photos of the states I’ve lived in… who knows what state will be next?!

The US Air Force Memorial was pretty neat. I love the design of the actual monument, and the walls around with the quotes from many of our airmen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice and lived and died fighting for our freedom. Here are some of my favorites.
